Managing Director
Dallas, TX, USA

Mark is a managing director in Assurance Professional Practice (APP), which is Crowe’s national office. His primary responsibilities include supporting the audit practice on technical accounting questions and issues related to the rules and regulations of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).  In this role, he devotes significant effort to the firm’s SEC audit practice – consulting on SEC rules and filing requirements, securities offerings, comfort letters, and comment letters. He serves as a designated liaison to the SEC on practice matters related to accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory issues.

Mark began his career in the Houston office of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he served as an audit manager focused on the financial services industry, including property casualty insurance clients and broker-dealers.  Subsequently, Mark spent seven years on the staff of the SEC in various roles.  Immediately prior to joining Crowe’s national office, Mark was the corporate controller of a privately held engineering, design, and construction company.

During his tenure at the SEC, Mark served as an Associate Chief Accountant in the Division of Corporation Finance’s Office of the Chief Accountant where he acted as an expert resource on matters related to Regulation S-X and S-K, primarily in the financial services, oil and gas, and retail industries.  He also developed in depth knowledge of complex accounting and unusual reporting issues on a wide range of topics including income taxes, impairments, business combinations, regulatory assets and liabilities in the utility industry, segments, oil and gas reserve reporting, fair value, transfers of financial assets, common control transactions, consolidation, materiality, internal controls over financial reporting, spin-offs, carve outs, earnings per share, pensions, and share-based payments.  While at the SEC, Mark also served as an Accounting Branch Chief overseeing the staff review of filings in the oil and gas and mining industries and as a staff accountant reviewing the filings of technology companies.
