Lisa M. Carvalho

Lisa is a partner with the firm's Labor & Employment group, representing and counseling employers and managers in connection with a wide variety of matters, including discrimination and harassment claims, personnel policies, wage and hour compliance, whistleblower claims, employment contracts, and employee relations matters. Lisa's litigation background also includes trusts and estates litigation, contract and real estate litigation, and personal disputes.
 
Lisa serves as the firm's Northern California market representative on the firmwide committee supporting the Women's Initiative Network of Reed Smith, and as Human Resources counsel to the firm's Northern California offices.

Representative Matters
  • Defended a financial services institution at arbitration of a former employee's disability discrimination claim, resulting in an award in the financial institution's favor
  • Represented pharmaceutical industry client in connection with successful motion to dismiss artfully pleaded ERISA claim
  • Obtained early nuisance value resolution of disability and race discrimination claims brought by a former employee of a financial services institution client following termination during period of alleged disability
  • Counseled small business and household employers regarding wage/hour audits and employee classification issues, and negotiated early dismissal of former employee claims
  • Represented employers in the pursuit and defense of trade secret, non-solicitation and non-competition claims, including obtaining a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunctions protecting employer trade secrets
  • Represented broker-dealers in NASD/FINRA arbitrations involving employment contract, trade secret and personal conduct issues
  • Counseled employers on personnel policies and practices for state and federal compliance
  • Defended financial institutions against Sarbanes-Oxley whistleblower claims
  • Negotiated pre-discovery dismissals of fact-intensive sexual harassment and gender discrimination charges against financial institutions
