Lana S. Flame, Esq. is an Impartial Hearing Officer licensed by the New York State Education Department.  For more than 20 years, she has presided over due process administrative hearings between parents and New York State school districts, involving special education issues under federal and state laws.  She has heard and issued decisions in several hundred cases.  Ms. Flame has trained new impartial hearing officers on how to conduct a hearing. 

Ms. Flame’s career includes a variety of experiences in education, disability, family and labor law.  She is a labor arbitrator whose experience includes serving on the 3020-a panel for the NYC Department of Education and the United Federation of Teachers Local 2, AFT, AFL-CIO, hearing disciplinary cases involving tenured teachers.  Previously, as Director of the Lawyers Alliance of New York's Child Care Law Project she led seminars and a public policy round table on issues impacting child care organizations.  As Assistant General Counsel of Victim Services Agency (now Safe Horizons), she wrote and trained extensively on domestic violence and child abuse issues.

Ms. Flame has a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. in Psychology and Political Science from New York University, Washington Square College.
