Jodi J.  Schwartz is a partner at the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz where she specializes in the tax aspects of the corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions that are the firm’s primary practice. She is the chair of the Firm’s Tax Department.  Ms. Schwartz has been the principal tax lawyer on numerous domestic and cross-border transactions in a wide range of industries.  She was elected partner in 1990.

Ms. Schwartz received her B.S. in Economics magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981, her M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School) in 1984, her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1984 and her LL.M. in taxation from the New York University Law School in 1987.

Ms. Schwartz is recognized as one of the world's leading lawyers in the field of taxation, including being selected by Chambers Global Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers, Chambers USA Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for BusinessInternational Who's Who of Business Lawyers and as a tax expert by Euromoney Institutional Investor Expert Guides. In addition, she is a member of the Executive Committee and past chair of the Tax Section of the New York State Bar Association and also is a member of the American College of Tax Counsel.

Ms. Schwartz has served on the board of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, the Jewish Community Project of Lower Manhattan, the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Foundation for Jewish Camp.  She is the Treasurer of the Jewish Federations of North America and serves on the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  Ms. Schwartz was a Wexner Heritage Foundation Fellow from 1990-1992.

Ms. Schwartz has served in a number of roles at UJA-Federation of the New York, including as a past member of the Board and Executive Committee, Chair, Lawyers Division, Chair, Women’s Philanthropy, Chair, Planned Giving and Endowments, Chair, Law Committee and Founding Chair, Commission on the Jewish People.

Ms. Schwartz is the recipient of a number of honors from the Jewish community including the first James H. Fogelson Award (UJA-Federation Lawyer's Division, 1992); Ludwig Jesselson Young Leadership Award (UJA-Federation, 1993);  Harry Mancher Award (UJA-Federation, 1994); Harry Rosen Award (Jewish Agency for Israel, 1995); George A. Katz Torch of Learning Award (American Friends of Hebrew University, 2000);  Kol Isha Award, (Kolot: The Center for Jewish Women’s and Gender Studies, 2002);  Endowment Award (Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York, 2005); Proskauer Award (UJA - Federation Lawyer’s Division, 2010), Leadership Award,(Jewish Community Project of Lower Manhattan, 2015) and The Madeline Borg Lifetime Service Award (The Jewish Board, 2017).
