Jim is the partner-in-charge of the Audit Methodology and Standards Group, the group responsible for setting audit policy as well as providing audit tools and guidance to engagement teams in the United States.  Prior to this role, Jim was a lead audit partner performing integrated audits of public company clients in the manufacturing, consumer products, and other commercial industries. Areas under Jim’s leadership include standards and professional bodies; technology and tools; audit methodology and execution; and, data analytics.

Jim first joined Grant Thornton in 1989 and, prior to his current role, has held a variety of roles including: GTIL Methodology Steering Committee (international); Office Managing Partner (Denver); Internal Control over Financial Reporting Resource Center Leader (National); Professional Excellence Committee (member); International Business Center Director (US Central Region); co-authoring Guidance on Monitoring Internal Control Systems issued by COSO; Professional Standards Partner (Dallas); Audit Practice Leader (Greater Bay Area); Audit Improvement Task Force (chair); and, European Liaison Manager (London).  For most of 1997, Jim served as chief financial officer for a privately held semiconductor materials and services company, returning to Grant Thornton later that year.

Jim received his Bachelors of Science, Business Administration – Accounting, and a Masters of Business Administration – Taxation, from San Jose State University, California.
