Honorable Peter J. Busch

Judge Peter J. Busch has been a San Francisco Superior Court judge since 2000. He currently presides over a civil law and motion department. Previous assignments have included civil trials and criminal trial and arraignment departments. He served as a temporary judge with the Court of Appeal for the First District for three months in 2006.  Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Busch spent 20 years as a civil litigator at Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk & Rabkin, where he also served as managing director.  He received his B.A. from Yale University in 1974, and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1977.  After law school, he clerked for Judge Frank M. Coffin of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. of the United States Supreme Court. He was a co-author, with Don Miles, of the chapter "Trial Exhibits" in California Trial Practice: Civil Procedure During Trial (3d ed.), published by C.E.B. in 1995, and he has taught various judicial and legal education programs.
