Etienne Drouard, partner in the Paris office, focuses his practice on intellectual property, information technology, online services and data protection. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions; commercial transactions and regulatory proceedings involving IP/IT issues; online services, advertising and marketing; consumer protection; technology and outsourcing agreements; digital signature; whistleblowing, cyberwatch and cybercrime.

Mr. Drouard also assists companies and public bodies in litigation and regulatory matters at French, European and international levels on counterfeiting, Internet liability, e-discovery, export control, defamation and online reputation, internal and external fraud, antitrust and unfair competition.

Professional Background

Mr. Drouard was an associate for seven years at one of the largest French law firms, and more than three years at the Paris office of a U.S. firm, where he managed a team focused on all aspects of IP/IT law. Prior to that, he was a public officer at the CNIL (French Data Protection Authority) for three years, where he gained experience in personal data management and health services (clinical trials), as well as in banking and regulatory compliance issues (SOX, discovery, etc.).

He previously worked with the U.S. National Security Agency on electronic networks surveillance and was appointed as an expert by the European Commission during "Safe Harbor" negotiations with the U.S. Department of Commerce in 2000.
