Deborah Freier has been an Assistant Prosecutor at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office in Newark, New Jersey, for the past 13 years. For the past four years, she has focused on computer and technology facilitated crimes, including the possession and distribution of child pornography, and computer intrusions. She also spent seven years in the office’s Special Victims Unit where she prosecuted crimes against children, including sexual and physical abuse. Ms. Freier received her BA in Economics from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and her MA in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  Prior to attending law school, Ms. Freier worked as an investigator for the New York City Department of Investigation.  She received her Juris Doctor from Seton Hall Law School in Newark, New Jersey, and clerked for the Honorable Donald S. Goldman (ret.) of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Criminal Division.

Ms. Freier received training in the investigation and prosecution of computer crimes and online child exploitation from the United States Secret Service’s National Computer Forensics Institute, the National District Attorneys’ Association, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
