Chidinma Ume currently serves as Associate Counsel for Justice Initiatives at the New York City Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ), where she leads Justice Reboot, an initiative to reduce unnecessary delays in the processing of criminal cases and to reduce unnecessary incarceration in New York City. To that end, Chidinma works with various high-level actors across the criminal justice system to identify systemic factors associated with delays and to devise solutions to enhance  efficiency of the New York City Criminal Justice system and thus, enhancing the system's fairness.

Prior to M‎OCJ, Chidinma was a criminal prosecutor at the Manhattan District Attorney's Office where she handled hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases and deepened her legal and operational knowledge of the system in New York City.  While in law school, Chidinma provided indigent criminal defense at the pre- and post-conviction stages in the District of Columbia, from the investigation to  trial phases and also argued in several hearings before the U.S. Parole Commission.

Chidinma received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley and a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center.
