Brian T. Hafter practices in the area of business litigation in the San Francisco office of Liner Grode Stein Yankelevitz Sunshine Regenstreif & Taylor LLP. Brian has diverse experience litigating complex disputes, including litigation of business, intellectual property, securities, real estate, trust and estate, insurance coverage, bankruptcy, employment, and other matters.

Prior to joining Liner, Brian was a litigation shareholder with Steefel, Levitt and Weiss, where he represented a variety of clients in complex business litigation. Among the clients Brian has represented include leading financial institutions and Wall Street brokerage firms, software developers, e-commerce companies, real estate developers, entertainment companies, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations and charitable foundations.

Notable Cases

  • Successfully defended pipe and sewer restoration company in arbitration of patent false marking claim
  • Defended a national brokerage firm in a seven-week trade secrets trial concerning the alleged misappropriation of a certain wireless technology.  Represented the client in complex trial court and appellate proceedings.
  • Defended herb distributor in numerous, complex product liability lawsuits on West coast.
  • Defended an e-commerce company in arbitration of a complex contractual dispute in Portland, Oregon.
  • Defended a joint venture partner in litigation relating to the distribution of video rights to a well-known television series.  Represented the client in both trial and appellate proceedings, which ultimately led to a nuisance-value settlement.
  • Represented an aerospace manufacturer seeking damages for breach of contract and fraud in connection with the sale of its business.  Arbitration resulted in a multi-million-dollar damages award in our client's favor.
  • Defended a family trust in probate litigation concerning claims of alleged common-law spouse.  Coordinated litigation efforts in California and foreign jurisdictions.
  • Defended numerous brokerage firms against claims by investors seeking to recover millions of dollars in losses to stock value.  Arbitrated cases before the New York Stock Exchange, the National Association of Securities Dealers, the Pacific Exchange, and the American Arbitration Association.
