Brian H. Montgomery serves as both Supervising Counsel for the Civil Investigations Unit and Director of the Student Protection Unit at the New York State Department of Financial Services. As Supervising Counsel for Civil Investigations, Mr. Montgomery manages investigations of potential violations of state and federal consumer financial laws, including the New York Financial Services Law, Dodd-Frank, and fair lending laws. As Director of the Student Protection Unit, Mr. Montgomery leads a team that conducts investigations of potential misconduct involving student financial products and services, educates students and their families concerning federal and private student aid, and reviews and resolves consumer complaints.

He was previously an Assistant Attorney General in the Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection at the New York State Office of the Attorney General. Mr. Montgomery graduated from Colgate University in 1999 and cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2006.
