Ana Novaes, 52, is currently a Commissioner of CVM (the Brazilian security and exchange commission). She holds a Ph.D degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley (Dec/1990) and a BA degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (dez/2007). She is also a certified financial analyst (CFA©). Previously, she was a member of the Board of Directors of CCR, Datasul, CPFL Energia and Metalfrio and a consultant of the Auditing Committee of CSN. Before, she was investment director of Pictet Modal Asset Management (1998-2003) and equity analyst of Banco de Investimentos Garantia (1995-1997). She worked at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. between 1991 and 1994, having also taught macroeconomics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2003) and at the Federal University of Pernambuco (1st  semester 1991).
