Aaron Palmer

Aaron Palmer is a partner in the Securities Group in Blakes’ Toronto office. His practice focuses on structured financial transactions, derivatives, securities law, and securitization. Mr. Palmer has worked on a broad range of securities transactions, public and private offerings, and securities regulatory matters, and also has extensive experience with the development of innovative investment products and a broad range of derivatives-based transactions, including through a secondment to the law department of a major Canadian bank with primary responsibility for equity derivatives transactions and product development. He acts as arrangers’ counsel for one of the Canadian covered bond programs listed on the London Stock Exchange. Mr. Palmer has also advised clients on accessing the new Canadian Secured Credit Facility and the Canadian Lenders Assurance Facility, and was involved in all aspects of the restructuring in 2007 through 2009 of the $33 billion non-banksponsored asset-backed commercial paper market after ABCP conduits failed at the onset of the credit crisis.

From 2004 to 2006, Mr. Palmer worked in Blakes’ London office, where he worked on a broad range of international financial transactions, debt programs under the EU prospectus regime, and M&A transactions. He received his law degree from the University of Toronto. He also holds degrees from the University of Waterloo and McGill University.
