Illinois (Newly Admitted)
CLE Requirements: Newly admitted Illinois attorneys must complete either a Basic Skills Course approved by the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism (ILSCCP), such as PLI's Illinois Basic Skills course or by enrolling in a mentoring program approved by the Commission on Professionalism. They must also complete additional hours of Illinois-approved CLE in any category of credit to total 15 hours. The deadline to complete the requirement is one year after the last day of the month in which they were admitted to the Illinois bar. Example: those admitted to the Illinois bar in May 2023 have May 31, 2024 as their NAA initial credit completion deadline. By your initial credit reporting deadline, your Illinois transcript must reflect your compliance to avoid a late fee with the MCLE Board of Illinois.
To see your specific NAA deadlines, log in to the Board's website here. After logging in, your NAA deadlines will appear below your full name.
Attendance Reporting: PLI reports attendance to the Illinois MCLE Board. The Illinois MCLE Board requires that providers report attendance by the 15th day of the month following the month the attorney completed the course. For example, the provider must report June course attendance by July 15. Please ensure your PLI account includes your Illinois ARDC number for timely reporting. Note that the attorney MCLE compliance deadline is June 30 of the attorney's reporting year, and the reporting deadline is July 15.
Effective April 2023: Each Illinois attorney has an online MCLE Board transcript. The MCLE Board will report compliance for attorneys once their online transcript reflects their MCLE compliance. Attorneys may view their transcript by logging into My MCLE with their ARDC#. The transcript's new features eliminate the need for attorneys to report compliance if their transcript reflects that they've earned the required credits. The MCLE Board automatically enters a report of compliance for the attorney when their transcript reflects compliance. If the transcript does not reflect compliance, the attorney is not in compliance, and they cannot enter a report of compliance.
