Biography

Sarah Netburn is a United States Magistrate Judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. She was sworn in on August 16, 2012. From 2010-2012, Judge Netburn served as the Southern District of New York’s Chief Counsel to the Office of Pro Se Litigation. Before her work in the courthouse, Judge Netburn was a commercial and civil rights litigator at Emery Celli Brinckerhoff & Abady LLP in New York. She graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law. After law school, Judge Netburn clerked for the Hon. Harry Pregerson on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She formerly served on the Board of Directors of The Fortune Society and was the recipient of the Legal Aid Society’s Pro Bono Publico Award in 2004 and 2005. She is currently a member of the Federal Bar Council Public Service Committee. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Brown University.
