Overview

With rapid-fire developments occurring on the international scene, sanctions laws have been quickly developing tensions between the United States, Russia, Iran and North Korea and have created a risky and rapidly changing sanctions arena.  In addition, similar developments have been occurring with respect to sanctions issued by the EU, Her Majesty’s Treasury and the United Nations.  Never has it been more complicated to comply with international sanctions law and to keep abreast of developments.  This session will provide a brief overview of sanctions law generally, an update of current developments, enforcement and compliance.

Please join Bruce G. Paulsen of Seward & Kissel LLP (New York) and Daniel Martin of Holman Fenwick & Willan LLP (London) as they discuss the following:

  • An overview of U.S. sanctions law
  • An overview of the EU and UN sanctions regimes
  • Recent developments with respect to sanctions against Iran, Russia, Cuba and North Korea, as well as enforcement in the U.S. and the EU
  • Practical steps to ensure compliance – due diligence, contracting, legal advice – and ensure that you can get the deal done
