Overview

Augmented Reality (AR) superimposes digital images on to the real world, allowing users to see those images as if they were part of the real world, while Virtual Reality (VR) uses technology to put the user into a virtual environment where he can interact with his surroundings.  These technologies enable users to immerse themselves in computer generated environments, but bring with them actual risks and potential liabilities.  AR and VR use biometric information and other personal information about the people who utilize them, which data may be subject to a variety of laws covering biometric data, data privacy, and data security.

Please join Gail Gottehrer of the Law Office of Gail Gottehrer LLC and Ronald J. Hedges of Dentons US LLP as they:

  • Discuss what AR and VR technology are, the types of data they might collect and use, the laws that might apply to that data, and the related privacy, security and data retention laws
  • Consider the causes of action that may arise out of AR and VR
  • Address the liability issues that arose out of the use of Pokemon GO
