The financial services industry faces another regulatory sea-change as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) leadership changes hands.  The Mulvaney-Kraninger leadership had altered significant aspects of the CFPB’s prior regulatory priorities and approach.  The CFPB is ramping up rapidly to tackle those key issues, the consumer protection concerns highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic and a range of new imperatives born of technology and market developments.   Meanwhile, the lightning-rod agency will be the subject of rigorous oversight and activity by Congress.  And the relationship between the CFPB and the States will be undergoing a major shift from the interactions of the Trump era.

Please join us for a discussion by our panel of the CFPB’s anticipated direction, related Congressional activities and interactions with the States:

  • The CFPB’s anticipated direction in regulation and enforcement - 30 minutes
  • Congressional oversight and legislative activities - 15 minutes
  • The interaction between the CFPB and the States - 15 minutes

Our panel members for this program are (i) Quyen T. Truong of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, former CFPB Assistant Director & Deputy General Counsel; (ii) Meredith Fuchs, General Counsel of Plaid Inc., former CFPB Deputy Director; and (iii) Shennan A. Kavanagh, Deputy Chief of the Consumer Protection Division, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.
