Overview
Advances in quantum computing make it increasingly possible that within the next decade, a computer will be powerful enough to break widely used encryption algorithms and undermine our cybersecurity systems. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is developing standards for post-quantum cryptography to defend against quantum cyberattacks and expects to release its initial standard next year. Our panel will discuss developments in quantum computing and what lawyers need to know, including:
- What quantum computing is (10 minutes);
- What post-quantum cryptography is (10 minutes);
- The cybersecurity concerns raised by quantum computing (15 minutes);
- NIST’s work on a post-quantum cryptography standard (10 minutes); and
- Laws and regulations that could apply to quantum computing post-quantum cryptography (15 minutes).
