Overview
Why You Should Attend
PLI’s Prison Law program offers a unique focus on evolving prison law issues. This program is designed for lawyers who work with respect to conditions of confinement and treatment of incarcerated and detained persons. This is an area where advocates face increasingly challenging legal issues, whether they represent incarcerated individuals from a nonprofit public interest practice, private practice, or as a policy advocate.
What You Will Learn
After completing this program, participants will be able to:
· Understand latest developments and best practices concerning immigration detention conditions and federal prison litigation
· Identify strategies for advocating for clients who have opioid use disorder
· Review challenges and best practices for handling discovery issues in prison and jail litigation
· Recognize ways to advocate for disability justice in prisons and jails
· Assess ethical considerations for attorneys representing individuals in prisons, jails, and detention facilities

Lawyers and allied professionals who work in connection with prison and jail conditions and the treatment of incarcerated and detained individuals, as well as attorneys considering pro bono representation, will find this program especially valuable.
