Multiple lawsuits against Tesla are scheduled to go to trial this year involving serious or fatal crashes that allegedly occurred while the driver was relying on Autopilot. Tesla recently settled an alleged Autopilot-related crash case and obtained a defense verdict in another. The National Highway Safety Administration has announced a new review of Autopilot and drivers’ overreliance on the technology.
General Motors is facing class action lawsuits in which drivers allege that the company collected and shared driver data, including information about speeding, braking and acceleration, without their consent with third parties including insurance companies. In March, GM announced that it planned to stop collecting driver data and to end its relationships with certain data brokers.
