With developments occurring in international markets, economic sanctions laws have quickly evolved as tensions between the United States, China, Iran, and Venezuela have greatly changed the sanctions landscape.  Similar developments have occurred with respect to sanctions issued by the EU, Her Majesty’s Treasury, and the United Nations.  Never has it been more complicated to comply with international sanctions law and to keep abreast of developments.  This session will provide a brief overview of sanctions law generally, an update of current developments, enforcement, and compliance.

Please join Bruce G. Paulsen, co-chair of the Litigation Department at Seward & Kissel LLP (New York), and Andrew S. Jacobson, a former New York State Department of Financial Services enforcement attorney and current attorney at Seward & Kissel LLP, and Stephen Gentle (partner) and Cherie Spinks (Of Counsel), both of Simmons & Simmons LLP (London), as they discuss the following:

  • An overview of U.S. sanctions laws and recent developments with respect to sanctions against China, Hong Kong, Iran, and Venezuela [20 minutes]
  • Perspectives on the new Biden administration and changing landscape of UK sanctions [5 minutes]
  • An overview of the EU and UK sanctions regimes and related recent developments [20 minutes]
  • Current trends in enforcement, including matters impacting the cryptocurrency, banking, and shipping industries [10 minutes]
