The CDC estimates that the total “economic burden” for prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, and that every day more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. The amount of litigation generated from the opioid epidemic is equally staggering. Thousands of opioid lawsuits have been filed against virtually anyone in the supply chain for legal FDA-approved opioid pain medicine, including manufacturers, distributors, pharmacies, pain medicine practices and individual executives and medical professionals.
