Last year’s killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery, and the protests that ensued in their wake caused the issues of racism and racial equity to take center stage.  Many law firms, corporations, and non-profits have vowed to take this opportunity to explore and root out racial bias, and many lawyers are wondering what they can do to help foster racial inclusion and equality.  During this one-hour program Ama Karikari -Yawson, Co-Founder of Milestales Publishing and Education Consulting will explore the concepts of race, systemic racism, implicit bias, equity and inequity, how recent events reflect these concepts, and what lawyers can do to promote diversity and inclusion where they work. The agenda includes:

  • Introduction (5 minutes)
  • Exploring concepts of racial equity through current events (5 minutes)
  • Defining an ally and how to be an effective ally in the legal workplace (25 minutes)
  • Action items for promoting racial equity in the legal workplace (25 minutes)
