Data Sourcing: Identifying and Qualifying

This session will examine the legal, ethical, and operational considerations in sourcing data. After completing this session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of:

• Identifying the right data – Defining the data you need and aligning it with business objectives
• Sourcing strategies – Internal vs. external data sources, including partnerships, vendors, and public data sets
• Collection best practices and associated risks – Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and industry standards, especially with regard to data privacy and fairness
• Consents and permissions – Understanding contractual, regulatory, and ethical obligations
• Assessing fitness for purpose – Ensuring sourced data meets business and compliance requirements
• Data quality and integrity – Evaluating accuracy, reliability, and bias risks in datasets
• Provenance and chain of custody – Tracking data origins to ensure authenticity and compliance
• Negotiating data acquisition – Structuring agreements when purchasing or licensing data
• Regulatory and cross-border considerations – Addressing jurisdictional challenges in data sourcing
