Politics has not ceased during the pandemic.  While adjusting to shelter-in-place orders, managing essential services and planning for recession and recovery, companies, trade associations, nonprofits and other organizations have donated time, money and materials to government agencies, sought to influence the scope and impact of COVID-19-related legislation, stay-at-home orders, and policies, and continued to support and oppose candidates and ballot measures. The pandemic has altered the partnerships and interactions of the public and private sector.  This Briefing will outline the government ethics, lobby disclosure and campaign finance rules you need to know.

Join Jason D. Kaune and Elli Abdoli of Nielsen Merksamer Parrinello Gross & Leoni LLP as they discuss the political compliance issues surrounding:

  • Working with Governors, counties, and other levels of government when complying with and/or attempting to influence shelter-in-place orders, legislation, regulations, and policies;
  • Donating goods, including PPE, services, and funds to federal, state, and local government agencies;
  • Engaging in political activity during this period, including practical considerations when making political contributions, special sessions, black-out periods, closed agencies and delayed elections; and
  • Political laws suspended, altered, and expanded during the pandemic.
