The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted or severely impacted a broad range of businesses, with many ceasing operations entirely. Through this prism, our faculty examines the various factors that the insured businesses and insurers consider in business interruption claims. Assessing business interruption claims has always been a nuanced practice, but the COVID-19 pandemic introduced a new layer of complexity to the assessment. Our faculty will address many practical measures to consider when preparing business interruption claims, including how insurers may deliberate the "story" of the claim as well as the facts in isolation and against the insured's industry. Cases studies will be discussed to illustrate how businesses were impacted by COVID-19 and how that could translate to a business interruption claim.
