With the war for talent and seismic shifts in the economy, professional service firms are facing tough times ahead. Add to the forecast that in-house legal counsel are (rightfully) demanding quantifiable change on the diversity and ESG front, and it's no wonder many law firms believe they are in the cross-hairs.
At this point, collaboration (and more specifically, smart collaboration) between lawyers and professional staff is not a nice to have. It’s an imperative. Heidi K. Gardner, PhD, the author of the best-selling book Smart Collaboration: How Professionals and Their Firms Succeed by Breaking Down Silos will speak on this subject. A Distinguished Fellow at Harvard Law School, she was previously a professor at Harvard Business School and a consultant at McKinsey & Co. With Ivan A. Matviak, she co-founded the research and advisory firm Gardner & Collaborators. She will join us to talk about her new book, Smarter Collaboration, and how organizations are implementing the principles of smart collaboration. She’ll share findings from her latest research as well as practical tips and advice from the new book due out in November.
Heidi will be joined by Deborah Brightman Farone, a management consultant in the strategic marketing area and the former CMO of Cravath and Debevoise. Deborah will provide insights into how firms are using collaboration and good business strategy to attract business, enhance recruiting and create a culture where innovation can thrive. Her advisory practice focuses on helping professional service firms and individual lawyers with their marketing strategy, business development, and strategic planning, as well as moderating and speaking at professional service firm partner retreats and workshops. Deborah’s book, “Best Practices in Law Firm Business Development and Marketing,” was published in 2019 by PLI.
