Overview

Federal and state regulators are paying careful attention to the consumer impact from the COVID-19 pandemic, and some regulators are already issuing stern warnings to the consumer finance industry and gearing up for enforcement activity. Richard Cordray, former Director of the CFPB, and Shennan A. Kavanagh, from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, will be joined by prominent consumer class action attorney John J. Roddy and industry-side lawyers Alan S. Kaplinsky and Christopher J. Willis for a discussion of the likely priorities and actions of federal and state regulatory agencies, and the key steps that regulated entities can take to avoid becoming targets for regulatory enforcement.

The discussion will address:

  • The servicing and collection of consumer financial products, credit reporting, marketing and origination of consumer lending products
  • The steps industry can take to help minimize the impact of COVID-related scams and frauds
