During the last few years, the global privacy landscape has changed dramatically. China is among the most important of the nations whose laws have reshaped the landscape. In August, China passed a comprehensive data protection law, the Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL), which is modeled in part on other jurisdictions’ omnibus data protection regimes. The PIPL will become effective on November 1, 2021.
