Overview

An understanding of basic nonprofit accounting principles and best practices is critical for anyone who either represents a nonprofit organization or has financial/management responsibilities within one.  Led by a faculty of highly experienced lawyers and accountants, Basic Accounting for Nonprofit Organizations will explain in “plain English” the fundamental accounting concepts that lawyers and nonprofit managers need to understand to ensure compliance and transparency, as well as best practices and “red flags” to watch for.

 

What You Will Learn

  • Basic accounting concepts for nonprofit professionals and attorneys who represent nonprofit organizations
  • What Board members and nonprofit officers and managers should be looking for; Identifying the “red flags”; When should you call outside help?
  • Lessons learned: What nonprofit professionals wish they had known and understood about financial concepts 
  • Special issues: What are the particular concerns of distressed higher education and 
    healthcare institutions?
