Overview

To respond to the access to justice crisis facing the legal system, the civil legal services community and the judiciary have partnered in the expansion of  limited scope and unbundled legal services. Potential ethical issues are one of the frequently-cited concerns about taking on this kind of representation. At PLI’s “Limited Scope Representation in Pro Bono & Public Interest Cases 2022: Ethical & Practical Challenges” you will learn about handling common ethical issues, as well as best practices to prevent and address them. 

 

What You Will Learn

  • Identify the ethical issues in limited scope representation, including communication, competence, candor before the tribunal, ghostwriting, and conflicts 
  • Understand the ethics rules that apply to attorneys engaged in providing limited scope representation
  • Apply best practices to respond to the everyday ethics challenges in limited scope programs, including limiting the scope of the representation, screening, communication, and training
