Biography

Tiela Chalmers previously worked as the Chief Executive Officer/General Counsel of Legal Access Alameda. After working for years at a law firm, she moved to the world of pro bono legal services, serving as Executive Director of Volunteer Legal Services Program in San Francisco, and then consulting nationally on access to justice issues. She was named to her current position in 2014 and oversees programs including an alternate public defender program and a collaboration on racial justice. She co-chairs the Disaster Legal Assistance Collaborative, a statewide group of organizations that provide free legal assistance to disaster survivors. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her work in mobilizing legal help for low-income communities.
