Biography

Ms. Van Zile is the Solicitor General for the District of Columbia. She oversees all appeals involving the District, its administrative agencies, and its employees in their official capacities. Her work focuses on the U.S. Supreme Court, D.C. Circuit, and D.C. Court of Appeals. Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, she litigated appeals and handled novel legal issues as an attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. During her time at Skadden, she handled appellate matters in federal appellate courts, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court and state courts of appeals. Her practice focused on administrative law, including challenges to actions and rulemakings by the Federal Communications Commission, U.S. Department of Education, and Internal Revenue Service. She also maintained a robust pro bono docket. Ms. Van Zile is a member of the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court and volunteers for the Supreme Court Institute. She previously clerked for Associate Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, then-D.C. Circuit Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, and D.C. District Court Judge James E. Boasberg.
