Ben A. Schatz is Appellate Counsel at the Center for Appellate Litigation where he handles appeals and post-conviction proceedings on behalf of criminal defendants.  Ben was previously associated with the law firm of Cahill Gordon & Reindel llp where his practice focused on complex commercial and First Amendment litigation.  From 2012-2013, Ben served as law clerk to the Honorable Ronnie Abrams, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.

Ben is currently a co-chair of Sanctuary for Families’ Pro Bono Council, a network of professionals committed to supporting the work of Sanctuary for Families, New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. 

Ben is a two-time recipient of Sanctuary’s Above & Beyond Pro Bono Achievement Award.  He is also a past recipient of the Legal Aid Society’s Pro Bono Publico Award.  He graduated magna cum laude from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri.
