Biography

Teresa is Freshfields’ China chairman and a founding partner of Freshfields’ renowned Asia equity capital markets practice.

Over her 25 years as a partner, Teresa has helped numerous Chinese state-owned, privately-owned and international companies with their high-profile or ‘first of a kind’ securities transactions, including IPOs for the 'big four' banks. She has an equally impressive track record in public and private M&A transactions, takeovers and reverse takeovers, and China outbound transactions in many industries and sectors.

Amongst her many public service appointments, Teresa served as a non-executive director of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong from 2012 to 2018. She continues to be one of the Deputy Chairs of the Takeovers Panel in Hong Kong.

From 2006 to 2012, Teresa was a member of the Listing Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as Deputy Chairman for three years and then as Chairman for a further three. Teresa also served as a member of the China Securities Regulatory Commission's Expert Advisory Committee for Mergers and Acquisitions, a member of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's Exchange Fund Advisory Committee and the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform.

Last year, she was appointed as a trustee of the IFRS Foundation which sets the International Financial Reporting Standards.

Teresa earned a first class Master’s degree in law from Jesus College, Cambridge, England.
