The New York State Continuing Legal Education Board requires experienced attorneys to complete 24 credits, including 4 ethics and professionalism credits and 1 diversity, inclusion and elimination of bias credit, every two years. All credits must be completed and reported within 30 days after the attorney's birthday in alternate years. A maximum of 6 credits may be carried over to the next compliance period. Newly admitted attorneys, those admitted to the New York State Bar within the past two years, must complete at least 16 transitional CLE credits (3 ethics and professionalism, 6 skills and 7 professional practice or law practice management) in both of the first two years of admission to the Bar.
