Nova Scotia
CPD Requirements: Nova Scotia Barristers' Society requires all practising lawyers to complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing professional development in each reporting year. A reporting year for continuing professional development is June 1 through May 31. The deadline for creating your CPD Plan is June 1 each year. See Regulation 8.3.5 for details. In addition, the Barristers' Society recommends that lawyers engage in at least 50 hours of self-learning/self-study annually, in addition to the mandatory CPD Requirement. View CPD FAQs on the Barristers' Society website.
Completing Your CPD Requirements with PLI: The Society does not accredit courses offered by CLE providers nor assign hours to a course. It is the decision of each lawyer whether a CPD course or activity meets the requirements of the CPD Regulation and whether to include it in their CPD Plan. A CPD activity is any activity that has education as its primary purpose that is: (a) relevant to the professional needs of a lawyer; and (b) preserves and enhances a lawyer's knowledge or skills in the areas of (i) substantive legal education and skills development; (ii) risk and practice management; and (iii) professionalism.

Attendance Reporting: Lawyers in Nova Scotia must create and declare a CPD Plan. View the Barristers' Society's Creating a CPD Plan.
