CLE Requirements: The State Bar of Texas requires attorneys to complete 15 credits, including 3 credits of legal ethics/professional responsibility, every year. Compliance periods begin on the first day of the attorney's birth month and end on the last day of the month preceding the attorney's birth month in the following year. All credits must be reported by the end of the attorney's birth month. A maximum of 15 credits may be carried over to the next compliance period. For additional information, please see the FAQ page on the State Bar of Texas website.

NEW! Effective June 1, 2021, the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors amended the MCLE Accreditation Standards to allow ethics credit for implicit and explicit bias courses. The board approved the following definition to be included in the MCLE Accreditation Standards adopted by the MCLE Committee: "Legal Professional Responsibility" shall include programs that address the recognition of bias that can impair an attorney’s ability to provide competent legal services.

Attendance Reporting:

Attendance Reporting: PLI reports CLE credit to the State Bar of Texas.  Per the State Bar of Texas, it is the attorney's responsibility to make sure their mandatory MCLE hours are accurately and timely reported. Timely reporting requires that all CLE hours be received by the State Bar of Texas MCLE Director by the last day of the birth month. If an attorney's individual compliance deadline is less than thirty days away, we recommend they either notify PLI to expedite the reporting of their credits or for the attorney to self-report the credits via the State Bar of Texas My Bar Page.
