Zach Fardon co-Chairs Latham's Litigation Department in Chicago and is a member of the White Collar and Government Investigations Practice Group as well as the Securities Litigation and Professional Liability Practice Group. He focuses his practice on business litigation, internal investigations and white collar defense.

Mr. Fardon is a trial lawyer. He has tried numerous cases, both as a prosecutor and a defense lawyer, in state and federal district court, including cases involving charges of fraud, racketeering, conspiracy, financial and tax crimes. He has also briefed and argued appeals before the federal circuit courts.

Mr. Fardon has conducted numerous internal investigations for private and public companies and has defended companies and individuals in connection with Justice Department and regulatory investigations. Recent matters include representing the University of Illinois in connection with investigations of student admissions practices, conducting an internal investigation for a publicly-held company related to internal financial fraud allegations, defending a healthcare services provider in connection with a government investigation and representing a key witness in connection with a major public corruption scandal in Illinois.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Fardon served for nearly a decade as a federal prosecutor - both in Chicago and in Tennessee. During his tenure with the Department of Justice, Mr. Fardon tried numerous high-profile cases, including the historic corruption trial against former Illinois Governor George Ryan, during which Mr. Fardon gave the government's opening statement. Mr. Fardon was also tapped to serve as First Assistant US Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee in Nashville, where he supervised approximately 30 Assistant US Attorneys in all federal criminal and civil matters. Mr. Fardon received numerous awards as a federal prosecutor, including: multiple DOJ Director's Awards for Superior Performance as an AUSA; the Chicago Crime Commission Star of Distinction Award; the Frank J. McGarr Award for Excellence in Service to the United States; and the Cook County Crime Fighters Excellence in Law Enforcement Award.

Mr. Fardon was named a Future Star among White Collar litigators in the 2010 Benchmark Litigation legal guide. He has spoken frequently on corporate compliance and other white collar matters to private and public companies, professional associations, conferences and law schools.

Mr. Fardon is a member of the Illinois, Tennessee and Washington DC bars. He sits on the Board of the Legal Aid Society in Chicago.
