Yash J. Ashar is the National Head of the Capital Markets Practice of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas.  He joined the Firm (erstwhile Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co.) in 2001 as an Associate after graduating from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. He was made Partner in 2008. He is also part of the Firm’s Markets’ Committee.

An experienced practitioner in securities law, Yash has been associated with a number of capital markets transactions including initial public offerings; follow on offerings, QIPs, rights offerings, ADRs, GDRs and FCCBs. He has advised on several pioneering capital markets transactions involving India’s leading corporate. He also has experience in privatisation, joint ventures, private equity investments and general corporate law.

Yash is part of the faculty of the Securities Law Course at the Government Law College, University of Mumbai on topics relating to Indian securities markets and also conducts the securities law related modules related to the IPOs and continuous listing obligations at the Bombay Stock Exchange Training Institute. He also conducts training sessions at the National Stock Exchange of India. He was included in the inaugural ALB Asia’s 40 under 40 list of 2015 which profiles the brightest young legal minds in the region. He has been nominated by the Firm on various committees including the SEBI Committee for Reviewing Disclosures and Application Form in Public Issues. He has been a speaker for Practising Law Institute (PLI) - Annual Institute on Corporate & Securities Law in Hong Kong for several years.

Yash is ranked as a leading lawyer by Chambers Asia-Pacific 2017. His recent experience includes:

  • Advising on several infrastructure trusts (business trusts) to be launched under the new regime.
  • Advising National Stock Exchange of India Limited on the IPO.
  • Advised Religare Health Trust Trustee Manager Pte. Ltd. and Fortis Healthcare Limited in relation to the approx. $ 417 Million IPO of the units of Religare Health Trust and their listing on SGX. This was the first Business Trust listing on the SGX comprising healthcare assets in India.
  • Advised Larsen & Toubro Infotech Limited in relation to its Rs. 12,363.75 million initial public offer in July, 2016.
  • Advised Equitas Holdings Limited in relation to its Rs. 21,766.85 million initial public offer April, 2016.
  • Advised Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited in relation to its Rs. 15,434.85 million Qualified Institutions Placement in September, 2015.
  • Advised HDFC Bank Limited in relation to its $ 1,270.72 million American Depository Receipts offering and the Rs. 20,000 million Qualified Institutions Placement in 2015.
  • Advised Tata Motors Limited in relation to its Rs. 74,980 million Rights Issue and American Depository Receipts offering in May, 2015.
  • Advised Standard Chartered PLC in the first ever issuance of Indian Depository Receipts of Rs. 24,863.47 million on the BSE and the NSE in July, 2010.
