Mac Montgomery joined Keesal, Young & Logan July 1, 2010 as Of Counsel and is handling numerous matters involving securities arbitrations, litigation and regulatory matters. Before joining KYL, Mac spent twenty years as in-house counsel with PaineWebber Inc. and UBS Financial Services Inc. managing those firms’ West Coast securities litigation. Mac also served in an advisory capacity to the various business units at PaineWebber and after its merger with UBS in 2000. Mac has handled or managed well over 1000 securities and futures litigations and regulatory matters in state and federal court as well as before FINRA, NYSE, NFA, the Pacific Stock Exchange, AAA, and JAMS. Mac has tried over 35 jury trials to verdict in state and federal court and hundreds of bench trials and motions. He has also acted as counsel in well over 300 mediations. He has appeared on speaking panels at SIFMA, FINRA and the Practicing Law Institute and has served as an NYSE/NASD/FINRA arbitrator for many years.

Mac graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in 1973. He received his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois and joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in 1977 as an Assistant State’s Attorney. He was subsequently promoted to Deputy Chief of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

In 1984, Mac joined the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in the Division of Enforcement and worked on many matters involving violations of the Commodity Exchange Act, bringing enforcement actions before the CFTC and several injunctive matters in Federal District Court in Texas and Colorado.

In 1988, Mac joined International Trading Group as General Counsel in charge of litigation and defended ITG and it’s brokers and supervisors before CFTC Administrative Law Judges and National Futures Association arbitration panels, trying numerous futures matters to award or final decision.

Mac has been licensed in Illinois since 1977 and California since 1989.
