Bill Curtin is a trial attorney in the United States Department of Justice, Office of the United States Trustee.  Mr. Curtin litigates a wide variety of matters in chapter 11 cases, including motions to convert or dismiss, motions to appoint operating trustees or examiners, objections to the terms of debtor-in-possession financing and use of cash collateral, objections to disclosure statements and confirmation of plans, objections to executive bonuses and objections to retention or compensation of professionals.  In chapter 7 cases, Mr. Curtin supervises several panel trustees, litigates motions to dismiss and objections to discharge and prosecutes enforcement actions against attorneys, bankruptcy petition preparers and creditors who violate the Bankruptcy Code.  Mr. Curtin was also previously designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York and assists in the prosecution of bankruptcy fraud cases.

Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Curtin served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps as a criminal defense attorney.  Working primarily at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and in Iraq and Kuwait, Mr. Curtin tried dozens of cases before military juries and judges in eight states and four countries, representing clients charged with offenses including murder, rape, assault, drug distribution, larceny and financial crimes.  Mr. Curtin was awarded several commendations for his military service including the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Action Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.

Mr. Curtin is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy topics, and is an active supporter of Wounded Warrior Project, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and other military and veterans organizations.  Admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey, Mr. Curtin is a 1999 graduate of Providence College and a 2002 graduate of Pace Law School.
