Whitman Knapp graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993.

After working at a law firm in New York, Whit joined the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Rackets Bureau, where he was involved in the investigation and prosecution of criminal enterprises ranging from traditional organized crime to medical clinics and law firms engaging in insurance fraud.

Whit subsequently worked in the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau at the New York State Attorney General’s Office. While there, Whit worked extensively on investigations and prosecutions of individuals and entities connected with bid-rigging and price fixing within the insurance industry.

Since 2008, Whit has worked at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, in the General Crimes and Organized Crime units, and in the Business and Securities Fraud Unit where he currently serves as deputy chief. During his time in the Eastern District, Whit has worked, in particular, on corporate investigations within several different industries, most notably the construction industry. In connection with these, since 2012, Lend Lease (US) Construction LMB Inc. (formerly Bovis Lend Lease LMB Inc.), Tishman Construction Corporation, and Plaza Construction, LLC, entered into deferred prosecution agreements as a result of years-long overbilling schemes; additionally, during this time, Hunter Roberts Construction Group, LLC entered into a non-prosecution agreement in connection with an overbilling practices.
