Vonya B. McCann is senior vice president - Government Affairs, a position she has held since August 2009. In this role, McCann oversees all regulatory and legislative matters for Sprint.  As the company's senior government affairs executive, she is responsible for the development of Sprint's regulatory, legislative, and public policy positions and advocacy at the state, federal, and international levels.  

Before joining Sprint, McCann served in the U.S. Department of State as ambassador and deputy assistant secretary for International Communications and Information Policy. In that role, she developed U.S. positions on global communications and information policy, represented the United States in international organizations dealing with telecommunications issues and acted as chief advocate and negotiator to advance U.S. policy objectives.

From 1997 to 1999, McCann served in the additional role of principal deputy assistant secretary of state for Economic and Business Affairs, which included managing telecommunications issues.

Prior to joining the State Department, McCann was a partner in the Washington law offices of Arent, Fox, Kintner, Plotkin & Kahn. She also has held positions at the Federal Communications Commission and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the Department of Commerce.

McCann received her undergraduate degree from UCLA.  She received a master's degree in public policy and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

McCann has received a variety of awards, including the National Eagle Leadership Institute Eagle Award; Sprint Leadership Excellence Award; Washington Business Journal, Women Who Mean Business Award; Women in Technology, Corporate Leadership Award; U.S. Department of State, Distinguished Honor Award; and National Association of Blacks in Telecommunications Professionals, Patrice Johnson Award for Excellence.
