Vernon G. Chu has been the head of the legal department of BBC Worldwide Americas (BBCWA), since July 1999.  He joined BBCWA in December 1995 as director of business and legal affairs.

He is a member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts - New York serving as a Director, Secretary and member of the Executive Committee, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the Asian American Bar Association of New York, and the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund.

He also serves as the Co-Chair for the Motion Picture, Television, Cable and Radio division of the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries, and is a faculty member of the Practicing Law Institute, speaking on the annual seminar entitled Counseling Clients in the Entertainment Industry.

In December 2007, he was selected as the 2007 Counsel of the Year by the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel.  The award is presented to a general counsel or chief legal officer who has exemplified a distinguished record of legal, management and organizational skills by a panel consisting of senior in-house counsel and business affairs attorneys at the top entertainment and media companies.

Before joining BBCWA, he had been an associate with Kay Collyer & Boose in New York City from 1989-1995.  As an attorney, his responsibilities included negotiating production and distribution agreements with networks, cable and public broadcasters and financing agreements for production of motion pictures, television series, specials and documentaries.

From 1986-1989 he was a corporate associate at Spengler, Carlson, Gubar, Brodsky & Frischling in New York City. He was admitted to the Bar in 1987.

He was graduated from the Wharton School in Philadelphia in 1982 with a degree in accounting and economics.  In 1985 he received his MBA from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.  A year later, he graduated Cum Laude from Cornell Law School.  He lives in Forest Hills, New York with his wife and two sons.  He is a native of New York City.
