Holland & Knight LLP

Miami, FL, USA

Tom Morante is a partner at Holland & Knight in Miami and Washington, D.C. and is a member of the firm’s Financial Services Practice Group. His practice focuses on the intersection of insurance, securities, banking, and tax laws in an evolving and increasingly complex global regulatory framework. He counsels life, health, and non-life insurers, reinsurers, captive insurers, hedge funds, financial institutions, investment banks, and financial intermediaries in connection with their domestic and international regulatory, compliance, and transactional needs. With respect to the global financial crisis and the evolving financial regulatory changes, Mr. Morante is counseling clients on the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, including TARP and the Public Private Investment Program, creation of an Office of National Insurance, and the prospect of an optional federal charter for insurers, and proposed federal legislation with respect to “too-big-to-fail” systemic risk, resolution authority, regulation of hedge funds and derivatives, executive compensation, and consumer financial protection. Mr. Morante is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council of the American University Washington College of Law and serves on the Board of Advisors of Inter-American Dialogue’s bi-weekly publication Latin American Advisor—Financial Services.
