Ted leads the Intellectual Property Transaction Team and the Privacy and Data Management Team for Womble Carlyle. He negotiates and prepares agreements in the Internet, software and data spaces, helps companies develop and protect their intellectual property, and assists in data breach recoveries. He has negotiated cloud networks and app designs for implementation of the Internet of Things.

Ted chairs the Cyberspace Business Law Committee for the American Bar Association, and he is past co-chair for the ABA’s Privacy and Data Security Subcommittee in the same section.    He has published recent articles on Geolocation Privacy and Law and the First Amendment Argument for Constitutional Protection of Privacy. He is co-author with Theresa Payton of the books Protecting Your Internet Identity: Are You Naked Online? and Privacy in the Age of Big Data: Recognizing Threats, Defending Your Rights and Protecting Your Family from Rowman & Littlefield publishers.

Ted graduated with honors from Duke University and the Ohio State University College of Law.  He has served as in-house counsel for CompuServe and Bank of America.
