Chicago, IL, USA

Teri Ross is the Program Director at Illinois Legal Aid Online (ILAO). ILAO is a non-profit, legal-aid organization with the mission of increasing access to justice through the innovative use of technology. To fulfill its mission, ILAO hosts three websites - www.IllinoisLegalAid.org providing easy-to-understand legal information and referrals to Illinois residents; www.IllinoisProBono.org, providing training and practice support to pro bono volunteers, and; www.IllinoisLegalAdvocate.org, designed for Illinois' 300+ legal-aid advocates. Teri's duties as Program Director duties include overseeing the operations of the content, technology and outreach programs, fostering new and existing partnerships with community organizations, and developing new programs.

Teri began with ILAO in 2008 as its Outreach Coordinator. In her 1-1/2 years in that position, she facilitated the openings of Legal Self-Help Centers in 22 counties around the state of Illinois and provided ongoing training and support for the preexisting 16 centers. She also directed the launch of the "LiveHelp Program" on the public website in October of 2009. LiveHelp uses instant messaging software to provide remote navigation assistance to website users. Since it began, LiveHelp has hosted an average over 60 chats a day.

Prior to her work at ILAO, Teri was a staff attorney at Prairie State Legal Services (PSLS). At PSLS, she worked with the homeless population in Lake County. She provided legal advice and representation to homeless people on matters such as orders of protection, child custody/support, food stamps, Social Security benefits, bankruptcy, and housing issues. She also conducted legal-rights sessions at shelters and transitional housing facilities in Lake County.

Teri was the 2009 recipient of The Chicago Bar Foundation Anderson Fellowship. She is a graduate of the DePaul University College of Law with a Certificate in Public Interest Law. She is also a member of DePaul's Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) Committee.
