Steve Shapiro is a partner at Krasnow Saunders Kaplan & Beninati, LLP, specializing in corporate governance, financings, mergers and acquisitions, IT contracting, venture capital, privacy and cybersecurity, securities and banking law.

Before rejoining the private practice of law, Steve was a public company executive at a number of publicly held companies in the Chicago area.  He served as a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Cole Taylor Bank (now MB Financial Bank, N.A.); General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of eLoyalty Corporation (now MatterSight), a technology consulting company; Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary of First Midwest Bancorp, Inc. (a $9 billion bank holding company); and Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at the multinational conglomerates, FMC Technologies, Inc. and FMC Corporation.

At each of these companies, Steve was responsible for securities law, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, executive compensation, employment matters and corporate governance.  In addition, he oversaw all compliance and CRA matters at Cole Taylor Bank, including implementing the extensive banking and securities changes required by the Dodd-Frank Act; drafted and negotiated dozens of IT contracts and supervised the privacy function at eLoyalty; directed human resource legal work and employee benefits work at each of these companies; and oversaw the investor relations, communications and corporate development functions at First Midwest Bancorp.

Steve was named an Illinois Super Lawyer for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 and received the 2010 award for Small and Mid-Cap Governance Professional of the Year by Corporate Secretary Magazine and the 2011 award for Top General Counsel by First Chair.  He graduated from the University of Chicago Law School and from Columbia University cum laude in Economics.
